Anapol Schwartz Foundation Names Burn Survivor as First Anapol Advocate
Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010Law Firm to Donate $5,000 to Crozer-Chester Burn Center in Winner’s Honor
PHILADELPHIA – Law firm Anapol Schwartz has announced burn survivor Dennis Gleason as its first Anapol Advocate Award winner. Established by The Anapol Schwartz Foundation (ASF) in winter 2010, the award recognizes inspiring individuals who have helped victims affected by disabling injuries lead better and more productive lives. This inaugural award focused on the burn care community, and nearly 1,000 people voted online to select the winner from among three semi-finalists. The ASF will make a $5,000 contribution to Crozer-Chester Medical Center’s burn center in Gleason’s honor.
“We applaud all of our semifinalists, who, through their incredibly selfless efforts, help so many others…”
“This tremendous response demonstrates how much our semi-finalists have touched others’ lives,” said Joel Feldman, managing partner of Anapol Schwartz. “We applaud all of our semifinalists, who, through their incredibly selfless efforts, help so many others, and we’re proud to honor Dennis Gleason.”
Nominated for his tireless commitment to helping contractors prevent on-the-job burn injuries, Gleason suffered serious electrical burns in the course of his work as a lineman at PECO, the Philadelphia region’s electric and natural gas utility. After coming into contact with a power distribution line, he sustained second and third degree burns over 20 percent of his body, spent months in Crozer-Chester Medical Center’s burn center and then even more time in rehab during a difficult, painful recovery.
To make the best out of a devastating situation, Gleason became a safety trainer at PECO. For almost 20 years, he has shared his personal story with all new aerial and underground line mechanics, contributing to the prevention of electrical contact injuries on the job. He also volunteers at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, is a member of the Burn Foundation’s Survivors Advisory Council, and serves as a mentor to other burn survivors.

The Anapol Schwartz Foundation Announces First Grant
Wednesday, December 16th, 2009PHILADELPHIA – December 16, 2008 – The Anapol Schwartz Foundation, established by law firm Anapol Schwartz, P.C., announced it will dedicate its first grant to The Burn Foundation, a non-profit providing burn prevention education and support for the burn care community, burn survivors and their families throughout the greater Philadelphia region. The Burn Foundation will use the $25,000 grant to launch a new family mentorship program for burn survivors and their families.
“$25,000 to the Burn Foundation Will Seed Creation of Burn Victim Family Mentorship Program”
With funds from firm cases, The Anapol Schwartz Foundation supports research and programs advancing public health and safety to provide assistance to victims and their families. The $25,000 grant is made available from a recent firm settlement in a products liability case involving catastrophic burns to a young child.
“We are thrilled to dedicate funds from our Foundation to spearhead such a worthy project,” said Joel Feldman, managing partner at Anapol Schwartz. “We can’t think of a better way to honor the family from this recent case than to advocate for others affected by similar tragedies.”
The mentorship program for burn survivors will help patients and their families deal with the unique challenges posed by severe burn injuries by pairing them with former burn survivors who can provide hope and inspiration throughout the recovery process. The Burn Foundation’s position as a liaison to area burn centers will enable them to formally train and match burn survivors and their families with the most suitable mentor at three burn centers’ Crozer-Chester Medical Center, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, and Temple University Hospital.
“Most families are unprepared for the intensive and lengthy treatment a burn injury demands, with the psychosocial needs often going unrecognized and therefore untreated,” said Carol Gadsden, chair of the Burn Foundation board and its Survivors’ Advisory Council, as well as a burn survivor. “Thanks to the generosity of The Anapol Schwartz Foundation, we’ll be able to establish a program that helps to fill a critical gap in support for some of the 1,100 individuals, and their families in our region, affected by burn injuries every year.”

PHILADELPHIA – Oct. 30, 2009 – The Anapol Schwartz Foundation (ASF), established by law firm Anapol Schwartz, P.C., received the first official Chairman’s Award from the Burn Foundation at its 36th annual anniversary gala in mid-October for providing funding to create a mentorship program to assist burn survivors and their families.
The Anapol Schwartz Family Mentorship Program at the Burn Foundation was made possible by a $25,000 grant from the ASF. The funds came from a recent firm settlement in a products liability case involving catastrophic burns to a young child. The program will help patients and their families deal with the unique challenges posed by severe burn injuries by pairing them with former burn survivors who can provide hope and inspiration throughout the recovery process. Already underway at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, the program will also take place at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, and Temple University Hospital.
“We are honored that the Burn Foundation selected us for this meaningful award,” said Joel Feldman, managing partner at Anapol Schwartz. “We take pride in helping our clients and being able to help many others suffering from similar injuries is a bonus. Since the funding of our Foundation comes from fees received for representing individual clients, the programs we support are, in a sense, a collaborative effort with our clients.”

The Anapol Schwartz Foundation
Saturday, July 25th, 2009Our dedication to clients and their families is not limited to advocating for their rights in the courtroom.
Anapol Schwartz has provided assistance to many charitable organizations, including Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Northern Home for Children, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure Philadelphia. Recognizing that economic recovery is only part of the help that families affected by disabling injuries or death to a loved one require, we created The Anapol Schwartz Foundation in 2008 to continue our tradition of community support.
“The Anapol Schwartz Foundation will assist organizations reaching out to victims and their families in a variety of ways. “
The Anapol Schwartz Foundation will assist organizations reaching out to victims and their families in a variety of ways. Specifically, it will support non-profits that provide services to victims and their families, in addition to those committed to funding research, identifying health risks and promoting patient safety, particularly in the area of prescription drug treatment. The Foundation will also assist organizations working toward making consumers— whether adults, children, workers, or persons suffering from illnesses and disabilities—safer and able to lead better and more productive lives.
Initially dedicating $25,000, Anapol Schwartz has committed up to $100,000 of its fees from the recent Vioxx settlement and will contribute additional funds from future recoveries achieved on behalf of their clients and their families.
Administration
The Anapol Schwartz Foundation is a Donor Advised Fund, sponsored and administered by National Philanthropic Trust (NPT). NPT is a public charity dedicated to providing philanthropic expertise to donors, foundations, and financial institutions, enabling them to realize their philanthropic aspirations. Founded in 1996, NPT is among the 100 largest charities and is one of the top 35 grant makers in the United States.
The grant review process takes approximately 7-10 business days. Anapol Schwartz recommends grants to qualified charities from the Foundation. NPT reviews the recommendation, verifies the charity’s tax-exempt status, and ensures that the grant will be used for charitable purposes. Once this process is complete, NPT distributes the grant directly to the charity.
